The Woodsman

Kevin Bacon stars in this dark, shocking, and uncomfortable movie. Kevin Bacon is really creepy in this role and also really good. I was so glad they picked a well-known actor to play this because I needed to keep reminding myself to calm down because it was "just that guy from Footloose." He seriously does a full transformation. One very notable scene is where he is remembering his past. He isn't speaking and they just have a very long take in close-up on his face. It's pretty intense because you can see everything that he is thinking about.

The way the movie is edited, acted and scripted doesn't make this pedophile likable at all. We see his temper, his lust for little girls, and his social/sexual strangeness. However, the fact that it is shot and told from his perspective make the viewer sympathize with him. We want him to change, no matter how impossible it seems. You almost feel bad when the cop checks in on him everyday and berates him. It's odd to find yourself cheering on the pedophile just because he decided not to molest a little girl this time.

Also, I love any story that can tie in a fairy tale, and this one does it beautifully. It's really like a "Little Red Riding Hood" for a modern generation.

So it has good acting, and gives the viewer a new perspective. Rent it sometime.

A to the S grade: A
Teacher Comments: This would be a good movie to study for acting.

Sleep

I miss sleep. I miss getting the minimum amount every night. I got to catch-up a little last night, and that has made a significant difference in my attitude today. Also, thanks to the people who listened to me bitch yesterday.

Bragging Rights

The Chicago Reader review came out today for our show.

The last bit said:

"La Costa Theatre Company's vibrant, well-sung production is impressive in terms of confidence and polish, especially given the troupe's youth and shoestring budget. The standout is bubbly Anna Schutz, playing Charlie Brown's dizzy kid sister, Sally." --Zac Thompson

So far, so good! Yeah!

The Big Screen

I would like to see these movies, in this order:

1.) Ratatouille
2.) Sicko
3.) Harry Potter
4.) La Vie En Rose
5.) Rescue Dawn
6.) Cashback
7.) Interview

See a movie with me.

Opps...

So Tuesday has come and gone with no posting. Sorry to my fans.

What to post about...I am in love with Christian Bale. It all began back when Newsies made it's way into my life back in 1992. It's nice that he is also a pretty good actor and in some pretty great movies: Newsies, Batman Begins, The Prestige, and Little Women. So, that's about it... I love him.

In real life news: things are going well. I am always nervous to report that because then things tend to go not as well. I have some auditions, and some callbacks coming up... yeah! I have been spending more time with people from work and my show, a.k.a. "making friends." The show has settled in a bit, and work is moving at a nice pace. I am putting myself out there, as far as dating goes, and that seems to be working out nicely as well.

Also, the Pioneer Press is doing a story on me. Crazy. The guy I talked to from the paper was super nice, and LOVES the Peanuts. So look for the Pioneer Press for my story next week, and the Reader for another review tomorrow. That's all I got time for, for now.

The Obligatory Apology Blog

Yeah... I've let this blog fall behind. Half because of my schedule, and half because I've chosen not to blog about the confusion in my life right now. I will get back to business Tuesday hopefully. Please enjoy this amazing performance until I return.

Miss Jennifer Holliday, 1982 Tony Awards:

I saw her do this at Nothing Like A Dame, and I have been singing her song all week. Love it.

Oma and Opa

My Opa went into the hospital yesterday thinking he had a heart attack. The tests showed that he didn't and was okay except for a high level of some enzyme. He had an angiogram and he should be coming home today. It was all a little scary because he is 90 years old and has a pacemaker. However, I wasn't too nervous because I had a feeling he would be A-OK.

My Oma is supposed to go into back surgery this week, but her test came back saying she was a high EKG reading... or something. So now she has to go in to the hospital to see what they will do.

It's been hard watching my grandparents health decline rapidly over the last few years. They've talked to me about it and it sounds so frustrating. They are totally lucid and my Opa is still funny and quick. He can't drive anymore, and they have to rely on everyone for everything. I think they are scared. I am scared for them too.

Summertime

Well the summer is halfway over. Camp and the show will be done mid August. I've already met so many great people who are into theatre. I am excited to see what the Fall will bring. I have a few ideas about what I could do, but I don't know what exactly.

I am feeling refreshed and excited to be doing theatre in Chicago. Yeah life!

One Show I Won't Be Doing

Well, that was a doomed audition from the start. I guess it was a self-fulfilling prophecy somewhat. I was surprised I was called back for Beth, as I didn't sing anything like that in the audition. I am more of an Amy or Jo.

Anyway, I was thrilled to be called back at all, but super nervous as I wasn't confident in that singing that role. I was feeling good last night, but still I felt a disconnect from the material. I have a very good instinct about what roles I am good for, and I was not getting any vibes from this.

So at the audition, I went in and my breathing was not there. I had to take odd catch breaths and some notes sounded gravely... mostly because I am exhausted and so is my voice. Anywho, it's over with now and at least I got a callback with all those people who sounded really great.

I also met a very nice girl who is playing Jo right now somewhere else. I couldn't believe there are genuinely nice people like that out there still. Although we were both called for Beth she offered me her headband when mine broke, and wanted to come see my show. It pretty much made the whole trip worth it - to know that humanity is essentially good at heart.

Holy Crap

It's July guys. In case you didn't know. Half of summer is gone (although as someone pointed out to me, my whole life is summer now). One more time, to reiterate: July. Life here I come!
